This series of soccer ball sculptures stems from my struggle between being a collegiate soccer player, and an aspiring artist. I realized I was neither of these completely, instead, a strange mixture of the two, that comes across as “different” in both areas of my life.
These pieces always begin with a rough shape, void of any detail. However as I apply the soccer ball material, I am constantly looking for the correct piece to fit the area I am working on. These sculptures are like three dimensional puzzles. Each panel must fit, not only the shape of the other six around it, but also the color or design of those it is being placed next to.
