Artist Statement and Biography:
Nicole Bruckman is an artist, curator, mother, animal lover, and animal advocate from Cleveland, Ohio. Embracing her passion for art at a very young age, Nicole went on to receive her BFA in illustration from the Columbus College of Art And Design in Columbus, Ohio.

After graduation Nicole began work as a freelance illustrator and designer. Deciding to further pursue her love for painting, Nicole moved to Los Angeles, and began showing her art as well as curating shows at various prominent Los Angeles galleries. Nicole is currently art director at Flower Pepper Gallery in Pasadena, CA.

Compelled by her life’s passions, Nicole’s paintings are inspired by the bond that exists between humans and animals. She creates enchanting and whimsical narratives in which human and animal characters coexist in fantastic and engaging settings. Wild exotic creatures and domesticated animals alike are the guides on a sublimely surreal journey through an endless nocturne. They live in a seemingly utopian realm, in which humans are conscious of the bond between our world and the kingdom of Animalia. These works are created in the hopes that this world may one day exist, and we may recognize and respect the value in all living beings. All of the pieces are acrylic on wood panel.

12″ x 9″, 14″ x 11″ with Frame, Acrylic on Heavy Watercolor Paper, 2015

Current Exhibition at Flower Pepper Gallery: Xiong Mao from April 11th to May 12th, 2015

Artist Biography:
Born in Philadelphia, but raised in Fresno, Luke Chueh (pronounced CHU) studied graphic design at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obipso where he earned a BS in Art & Design (Graphic Design concentration). He was employed by the Ernie Ball Company, working in-house as designer/illustrator where he created several award winning designs and was featured in the design annuals of Communication Arts and Print Magazine. Meanwhile, he also created, produced, wrote, designed, edited and published “E.X.P.”, a ‘zine dedicated to the “Intelligent Dance Music (IDM)” genre.

In 2003, Chueh moved to Los Angeles to further pursue a career in design. However, a lack of employment opportunities left him resorting to painting as a way to keep busy (a hobby he picked up while attending Cal Poly). He got his start when the Los Angeles underground art show, Cannibal Flower, invited him to show at their monthly events. Since then Chueh has quickly worked his way up the ranks of the LA art scene, establishing himself as an artist not to be ignored. Employing minimal color schemes, simple animal characters, and a seemingly endless list of ill-fated situations, Chueh stylistically balances cute with brute, walking the fine line between comedy and tragedy. Chueh’s work has been featured in galleries around the world, and some of his paitnings have also been reinterpreted into vinyl toys.

Artist Biography and Statement:
Ania Tomicka was born in 1985 in Lodz, Poland.

When she was only 9 she moved to Italy, where she started to draw seriously: manga at first and realistic things afterwards. She attended an art institute and graduated in 2004. During the school years she starts to paint with oil colors, a technique that soon to became her favorite. Hence she attended the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice where she found a lot of inspiration for her realistic and academic art. A year later she moved to Tuscany where she graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence. She focused her interest in more things like digital art, illustration and new materials such as wood.

She also completed her studies at the academy of digital arts NEMO NT where she gained the title of student of the year.

Ania has always been interested in realistic, renaissance works. Her first loves are Salvador Dalì and Wojtek Siudmak’s big canvases, full of absurd and strange creations, painted in a divine way.

Her current paintings are inspired by the American Pop Surrealist movement.

“In my artworks I like to express emotions of that particular moment. I am inspired by life and by music. I love to experiment with my imagination and my paintings, I usually just draw faces, what comes next is something that I don’t plan; my brushes and my hands manipulates everything just like external events manipulate my life. Sometimes you can control it, sometimes you can’t.” – Ania Tomicka

The Colors In The White by Alex Louisa

20″ diameter, 1″ thick panel, Oil and Acrylic on Wood

Current Exhibition at Flower Pepper Gallery: Xiong Mao from April 11th to May 12th, 2015

Previous exhibition at Flower Pepper Gallery: 3rd Year Anniversary Show from December 6th, 2014 to January 6th, 2015

Artist Biography:
Brisbane-based Alex Louisa graduated with a degree in Journalism and Creative Writing, before the need to create firmly pulled her attention back to her art. Having worked as a graphic artist for eight years, she now focuses solely on her personal work.

In 2008 she had her first solo exhibition at Jugglers Art Space in Brisbane, and has been involved in a number of group shows throughout Australia since then. Her work is now reaching an international audience as a member of the PRISMA Collective, showing with a selection of 30 artists from around the world. Her work has been published in Curvy and Semi-Permanent.

Often experimenting with mixed media, especially in the backgrounds of her works, Alex mainly works with drawing materials or oils, currently with a shift towards larger works. She focuses on elements of the natural world that grab her attention – discovering the intricacies of a leaf or flower, or trying to capture an animal’s individual personality, especially those of the avian kind.

Alex grabs every moment she can to work on her artwork, throwing herself into her painting or drawing any moment that her twin baby boys are asleep.

Artist Statement:
“I am a collector. I have a huge box of items that have been gathered through my wanderings – feathers, leaves, seedpods, lichen, shells, insects and bones – and I look forward to drawing and painting them all. By sharing the natural elements that captivate me the most, I hope to encourage everyone to take a closer look at their surroundings – whether it be a bird on a branch above their head, or the dried leaves beneath their feet – and to find the intricate details that may have previously evaded their eyes.

I have found that I like to take something very small, and represent it at a much larger scale so these details can really be exposed. By experimenting with a combination of soft-focus and highly detailed areas, I can draw the viewer’s eye to the area that captivates me most, like the tiny layered feathers on the wing of bird no larger than your thumb.

And it is always feathers that captivate me the most. My first word was ‘bird,’ and I have been enamoured with the creatures ever since.”

“‘I’ve Made It This Far…’ is surrounding my own personal fears of not knowing where I’m going to end up even though I feel as if I’m being tugged in a very specific direction. This piece is to help give some hope and guidance to anybody who feels like they’re stuck. Moving forward is difficult and terrifying, but if you’ve made it this far, you’re probably strong enough to keep on going.”

Artist Statement:
“‘When We Go Out In Search Of The Universe’ is playfully inspired by the style of Japanese woodblock prints as well as the innocent spirit of the panda. Pandas often have the reputation of being lazy, but rather, I imagine them having the wildest day dreams while munching on their bamboo. This panda is imagining himself on a heroic adventure with aims of exploring what lies across the sea.”

Artist Biography:
In addition to her work in Fine Art and Illustration, she is also freelance graphic designer.

As a trained sculptress with a newfound love of painting, her most recent work incorporates the two. She has always been drawn to elements found in nature that convey aspects of internal journey, place, and connectedness. Each piece begins with a question and through the process of making, enlightenment unfolds.

She loves researching new things, journaling, poetry, and traveling as much as possible.

Artist Statement:
COME CLOSE
Remember a time when your stillness spoke to you. When you felt so whole, your chest heaved with the weight. A time when simplicity, was the greatest pleasure of all.

LISTEN
We all have an inner voice. The one that tells us to pursue truth & beauty, and to never let go of what we knew as a child. The one that dares us to find our strength in vulnerability. The one that beg us to journey deeper and reminds us that we are never lost.

DISCOVER
This pursuit is my greatest hope. To uncover the mysteries that reside within this space that is internal at its source and manifests itself through nature, symbols, and rituals. Journey with me as I make these connections, uncover quiet truths, and explore the one-ness that connects us all.
