Muray first encountered Kahlo during a trip to Mexico, where their passionate affair began. They renewed their connection when Kahlo traveled to New York in 1938 on the occasion when Kahlo of her first solo show. It was at this time that Muray, an early adopter of color photography, created the first major series of portraits. The resulting work, and ongoing collaboration, succeeded in capturing Kahlo’s character in a way that only the artist herself had previously been able to do.

Dr. Salomon Grimberg contributes an introductory essay that both contextualizes Kahlo and Muray’s relationship and provides the first extant biography of nickolas Muray. An illustrated index of all the existing Kahlo portrait photographs taken by Muray supplements the book’s 56 color and duo tone plates. I Will Never Forget You tells the story of this little-known relationship in word and image, drawing on the pair’s poignant correspondence and artistic collaboration to paint a fresh portrait of a most beloved artist.
